U.S. Army offers civilian dental opportunities

San Antonio, Texas—Civilian dental professionals “are essential to operational continuity,” says John Heath, human resources manager for the U.S. Army Dental Command (DENCOM).
“When our military providers are deployed around the globe, our civilians remain to ensure local oral care needs are met,” he said. “Approximately half of the Army dental care workforce is civilian.” Career opportunities in the little-known U.S. Army Civilian Dental Corps are available for dentists, hygienists, assistants, laboratory technicians and business professionals. Civilian Corps members are employed at some 150 dental clinics in the United States, Europe and Asia. Unlike their military counterparts, civilians are not subject to employment contracts, boot camp or mandatory relocation. Qualified providers can serve at any facility without having to secure additional licenses. Nearly 2,500 civilian employees provide oral care to military members and their families.
